Thanks for attending the meeting yesterday

Thanks for attending the meeting yesterday. As what was told yesterday next Monday we will be inform on what sweets are we going to sell on sweet and sour day and the wrappings too. And reminder that on the 24/4 Packing for the sweet n sour, 27/4 announcement for the Opening ceremony for sweet n sour, Hari Anugerah we will be having a stall and same goes to Hari Kejayaan. I hope you wont miss the fun on selling things for these 2 days.

Leo Orientation

ORIENTATION

WHAT ARE Leo Clubs?

Leo Clubs are an Official Activity of Lions Clubs International that encourages young men and women between ages of 12 to 28 to serve others in their community and around the world.

Lions Clubs International

It is the world’s largest and most active service club organisation, adhering to the basic principle of humanitarian service to the community. It was founded in 7th June 1917. Lion Melvin Jones is the founder.

Lions-Leo Relationship

Lions supervise and educate Leos by organising seminars and workshops for them. Lions provide proper guidance and counsel to enable the Leos to be responsible for planning and implementing projects

Lions will appoint Leo Club Advisors to be present at meetings of the Leo Clubs. Leo Clubs are a

long-term project of Lions Club.

Who are the Leos?

Leos are young men and women of high moral standards ages 12 to 28, who are dedicated to making a difference in their community and are not members of other service clubs.

When was the Leo Program started?

Lions Clubs International adopted the Leo Programme in October 1967

Leo Clubs in Malaysia

First Leo Club formed: Leo Club of Anderson School, Ipoh in the year 2nd September 1970.

Objective

The objective is to provide the youth of the world (with) an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community.

Leo Pledge

I pledged of my hands, extended and open, to help those in need. I pledge of my heart, reach for it and it will be touched. I pledge of my ears, to hear another’s outcry. My eyes to see, the plight of others. My knowledge to bring a man closer to his dreams. I pledge of myself, for the betterment of my community and my country.

Leo Program

ALPHA Leos will receive programming that is appropriate and of interest to young service-minded leaders in their teenage years, with focus on the following: Character Development, Team-Building and Community Service in an Education Context.

OMEGA Leos will receive materials that concentrate on the interest of young adults, with focus on the following: Professional Development, Leadership Skills, International Contacts and Community Service

Purpose

The purpose is to promote service activities among the youth of the community that will develop the individual qualities of…LEADERSHIP, EXPERIENCE & OPPORTUNITY

Motto

The motto is L-E-O

The letter ‘L’ stands for ‘Leadership’; develop skills as ORGANISER, in TIME MANAGEMENT and in MOTIVATION.

The letter ‘E’ stands for ‘Experience’; learn the importance of COOPERATION through the PERFORMANCE of COMMUNITY SERVICE by working as a TEAM

The letter ‘O’ stands for ‘Opportunity’; provide a chance to EXCEL, DEVELOP CHARACTER TRAITS, SKILLS, and GROWTH, and to receive RECOGNITION of contributions

Benefits derived from being a Leo

Making new friends; viewing the world through another’s perspective; developing confidence; gaining organisational skills through hands-on experience; experiencing teamwork; having fellowship, participating in youth camps and youth exchange program etc.

Privileges

You will enjoy the global identity of a worldwide organisation. You will learn from other young people around the world and participate in international conventions and forums. You can enrol into the Continuous Leo Development program which teaches you on leadership, experience and opportunity.

When you participate in the Leo program and the various activities, you will be recognition. This is done during the Leo forum. Among the Awards available are Special Achievement Awards for President, Vice President, Secretary, Director, Tamer and Tail Twister, Certificate of Merit and

Who are your district officers?

Your Leo Advisor will brief you on your District Governor, District Chairman for Leo Club, Regional Committee Chairman for Leo Club, sponsoring Lions club president, Faculty advisor,

sponsoring Lions Club and Leo clubs in your area.

What is the Continuous Leo Development Education Program?

The CLD Education Programme is available in three parts. Part I covers the topic of

Leo Orientation’. A Leo is given the syllabus on this topic. A CLD Speaker gives a talk to elaborate and make the Leo understand about the Leo program. The Leo takes a test on this topic and upon passing; the Leo is registered with the CLD program and given a number and certificate. A Leo can apply for a CLD Badge.

The Leos can participate the CLD Educational program (Part 2), which is made up of the three Lions International, designated values: Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity. The CLD Education Program covers Part II namely

Education on Leadership, Education on Experience (Skills for Adolescence) and Education on Opportunity (Skills for Action)

Upon passing of each subject, the Leo is entitled for a certificate and can apply for a badge. On completion of the full course, the Leo entitles for an interview to achieve the ‘Leo Certificate of Proficiency’ Award.

The CLD Education Programme covers Part III.

Ten subjects are available, namely: Leo Leadership, Youth Outreach, Sight Conservation, Environmental Services, Health Services, Public Services, Education Services, Social Services, Youth Exchange, International Understanding & Cooperation.

Each subject passed will entitle a Leo to obtain a Certificate. A Leo can apply for a badge.

The CLD Education Programme covers Part IV. The highest awards achievable are the Alpha Leader Award and Omega Leader Award.

To qualify for a Alpha Leader award, a Leo will has to obtain a ‘Leo Certificate of Proficiency’ Award and has passed in 5 subjects of Part III.

To qualify for a Omega Leader award, a Leo will has to obtain a ‘Leo Certificate of Proficiency’ Award and has passed in 7 subjects of Part III and pass a test for organising a ‘meaningful project’.

Leos and Leo Clubs

Because our Leo program is publicly accountable and is a leading youth development program of
Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service club organization, the following rules are
necessary to ensure that our Leos observe the highest quality and standards. When Leos
observe these rules, their parents, their schools and members of the public will acknowledge the
excellence of this program and will ensure their continuing support of the Leo activities.

1. Attire & Grooming
a. A Leo must wear his/her vest, club’s t-shirt or designated proper attire
during any Leo or Lions function or project.
b. A Leo must be properly groomed at all times. This includes keeping the
hair tidy, clothing neat, and using accessories in a proper manner.

2. Conduct
a. A Leo must conduct himself/herself in orderly behavior at all times.
b. A Leo must observe proper and correct Lions protocol and decorum at
all times.

3. Parental Permission
a. A Leo under the age of 18 must get his/her parent’s permission to
attend any Lions or Leo function or project.

4. Carrying out Projects
a. In carrying out any projects, a Leo must follow the Leo Club
Constitution and Bylaws Article IV at all times.
b. All projects (including those jointly organized with other societies, other
non-governmental bodies, or commercial partners) must get the School
Principal’s and sponsoring Lions Club President’s prior approval.
c. At the end of each project, all financial accounts and documents must
be properly filed.
d. An Alpha Leo Club is not encouraged to organize any fundraising
activity outside the school, unless with the agreement of the School
Principal.

Training For Installation and Induction for Leo

Attention to all Leo members;

Training for the Installation and Induction for Leo will be on the 6th of March 2009, it will be compulsory to attend this meeting.

This training will prepare us for the upcoming Installation and Induction for Leo on the 28th of March 2009.
